The Final Carnival
In January 2001, a robust redhead hung a simple piece of white paper on the front door of a fashionable Uptown duplex. It read: “Clinter Carnival – All The Way to the Top.”
Nine years later, that goal was reached and it's been decided that the 2010 Carnival will be the last. Barring a Don Henley inspired cooling of hell, THIS IS IT.
Over time, the Carnival bent some zoning rules, stretched the limits of good taste and produced memories some of us will never forget:
- Pink Sweater Girl
- DJs with white high tops
- Tony Bauch’s cold walk from Northeast Minneapolis to South Minneapolis
- Anatomically correct snowmen (and women)
- Having to cut “Jump Around” from the playlist to keep the downstairs patrons safe
As the final Carnival approaches, we implore you to make the most of it and perhaps add to the lore. All the ingredients are there. The venue is big, the band, the Melismatics, is big, and no one has to worry about the home team being in the next day’s Super Bowl.
Photographer Stephanie Dunn will document the party and we hope that you share your memories of the Clinter Carnival on our blog or Facebook page.
